In a Facebook post at 7.47pm, Asyraf said PH’s Pang Sock Tao had already won the seat by more than 3,800 votes.
PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim, who was at PKR’s 25th anniversary event, congratulated Pang for her success. He also thanked DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook for his party’s efforts towards ensuring a PH victory.
At the PH election operations room, DAP leaders and supporters erupted into cheers of “Pang Sock Tao” and “unity government” after declaring victory.
Other senior leaders such as DAP deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo, Selangor DAP secretary Ng Sze Han and Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin were also spotted there.
Official results are expected before 10pm.
According to unofficial results as at 8.07pm, Pang has garnered 12,860 votes, ahead of Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut who has obtained 9,391 votes so far.
Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin trail far behind with 178 and 143 votes, respectively.
Pang’s victory keeps the Selangor state assembly seat in DAP’s hands for a fourth term. She succeeds her party colleague, the late Lee Kee Hiong, who won the seat in the 2013 elections.
She was re-elected in 2018 and 2023. The seat fell vacant when Lee died of cancer in March.
