Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department director Ramli Yoosuf said the scammers were using the NSRC’s call centre to deceive victims, Bernama reported.
The purported “NSRC officer” will contact the victims to inform them that he will cancel their phone numbers, following complaints that they have been used in fraudulent activities, he said in a statement today.
“The call will then be connected to another individual posing as a police officer, and the victim will be instructed to follow the instructions given until the victim transfers money to the designated bank account.”
Ramli reminded the public not to be easily duped by calls claiming to be from the NSRC, as the centre only receives calls and never makes outbound calls.
He also urged victims to report such incidents by calling 997.
NSRC is a response centre that consolidates resources and expertise from the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre, the police, Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, banking institutions and telecommunication services companies to handle reports of cyber fraud.
