Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain urged the public to refrain from speculating on the attacks, stating that the police should be given the space and time to conclude their investigations.
Razarudin also said they had yet to determine whether the attacks on Selangor FC’s Faisal Halim and Terengganu FC’s Akhyar Rashid are linked.
“Let the police carry out their investigations to determine the motives behind these incidents,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying.
“We (police) hope that no one will speculate on these incidents,” he said after attending the Defence Services Asia and National Security Asia 2024 exhibitions at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.
Police have arrested a man in his 20s suspected of being involved in yesterday’s acid attack on Faisal at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara, near here.
Faisal is being treated at a private hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan told FMT they had recorded statements from three people, including Faisal, with several witnesses to be called in today.
On Thursday night, Akhyar sustained injuries to his head and leg after being attacked by two robbers at his home in Kuala Terengganu.
Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said Akhyar was attacked as he was getting out of his car after returning from training.
Akhyar was reportedly hit with a blunt weapon on the head and suffered other injuries. It is understood that the attackers fled with his mobile phone and wallet.
