Jufliz said PRM will maintain a “realistic expectation” on the outcome of the May 11 polls, acknowledging that it had never won an election before.
“Of course, any party that contests in an election would be seeking to win. But if we don’t lose our deposit, that would be a success in itself. And it would show that PRM is still relevant,” he said at the launch of Hafizah’s manifesto for the by-election.
Hafizah is in a four-cornered contest for the Selangor state seat against Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao, Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.
PRM had also contested for the seat in the state elections last year, but saw its candidate, Chng Boon Lai, losing his deposit after garnering only 527 votes.
PRM is one of the country’s oldest political parties, having been formed by Ahmad Boestamam in 1955.
The party’s manifesto for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election highlights six key objectives, including spurring economic growth in the constituency and boosting the people’s income, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises.
It also pledges to establish community cooperatives in every village and residential area, encourage residents to get into eco-tourism, and improve public infrastructure.
