4-cornered fight in Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election

Pang Sock Tao will defend the state seat for PH against PN's Khairul Azhari Saut, PRM's Hafizah Zainuddin and an independent candidate.

Pang Sock Tao (PH), Khairul Azhari Saut (PN), Nyau Ke Xin (Independent) and Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM) are vying for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat come polling day on May 11.
KUALA KUBU BAHARU:
The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election on May 11 will see a four-cornered fight among Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an independent candidate.

PH is represented by DAP’s Pang Sock Tao while PN has fielded Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting chief Khairul Azhari Saut. They will be facing PRM’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

Their candidacy was announced by Election Commission (EC) returning officer Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin at the Hulu Selangor district multipurpose hall and sports complex at Kampung Tun Abdul Razak, in Kuala Kubu Baharu, after nominations closed at 10am.

Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli), which had earlier said it would be taking part in the by-election, announced late last night that it was pulling out of the race due to “a technical issue”.

The seat fell vacant following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 from cancer.

In the state election last August, Lee retained the seat for PH with a 4,119-vote majority over PN’s Henry Teoh, who is from Gerakan.

The constituency is a mixed seat with the 40,226 registered voters split almost evenly between Malay voters and non-Malay voters.

The EC has set May 11 as polling day, while early voting will be on May 7.
