PUTRAJAYA:
A package found at KLIA today and suspected of being a bomb did not contain explosives, say police.

KLIA police chief Azman Shari’at said further investigations were  being conducted in accordance with Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

He said police received a report at 1.30pm from an officer operating the cargo scanning machine about a package addressed to someone in Limbang, Sarawak.

The package, which was believed to contain a battery and some wires, had the words “Beware, do not throw or it will explode” written on it, triggering an alert.

“The police immediately conducted an investigation. Detection using K9 unit dogs found it negative for explosives,” he said.

Azman said a bomb disposal unit was called in, and a robot used to destroy the package.

He said the package was found to contain a laptop and a charging cable.
