PETALING JAYA:
A man suspected of being involved in the recent shooting at KLIA Terminal 1 was slapped with seven charges, including possession of a firearm, at the Kota Bharu sessions court today.

Hafizul Hawari, 38, pleaded not guilty and asked for the charges to be tried together before judge Nik Habri Muhamad, Kosmo reported.

He was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 with possessing a firearm, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 with possessing bullets, and Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 with possessing a package of firecrackers without a permit.

He also faces two charges under the National Registration Regulations 1990 for possessing three MyKads belonging to other individuals, and one charge under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for using a fake vehicle registration number plate.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted while Hafizul was unrepresented.

Ahmad Faiz did not initially offer bail and requested remand for Hafizul in Sungai Buloh Prison due to the accused’s involvement in another case in Selangor.

Judge Nik Habri denied bail for the firearms, arms and explosives charges, but allowed bail of RM20,000 for the remaining four charges.

The court also ordered that Hafizul be remanded in Sungai Buloh Prison for the duration of the proceedings.

May 23 has been set for the appointment of a lawyer, case mention and document submission.

Last Tuesday, Hafizul was brought back from Kelantan to Selangor for further investigation.

In the early morning incident on April 14, he allegedly fired two shots at his wife at the airport’s arrival hall but missed. One of the shots hit her bodyguard, who is being treated in hospital.
