“We have reminded bus companies and drivers many times about these offences, but they still occur… we issue summonses immediately because they can endanger the passengers.
“So far, we have issued summonses, and we will investigate this case further. If necessary, we will bring it to the attention of the land public transport agency for further action,” he said here today.
Shahrul said that during the operation, nearly 55,000 vehicles were inspected, of which 432 were seized. He also said JPJ officers issued more than 10,000 summonses for a variety of offences, including not having a valid driving licence and expired road tax.
He said JPJ also worked with the national anti-drugs agency, which led to the arrest of four bus drivers, aged between 40 and 60, for methamphetamine use.
In another development, Shahrul said the department detained a 24-year-old Vietnamese man who was found using a fake driving licence when entering the country at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint on April 9.
He said the suspect admitted to purchasing the fake licence for RM2,000 on WeChat.
