Oo Saw Kee, 39, pleaded guilty after the charge was read before judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin, Kosmo reported.
She was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, a fine or caning, or any two of them.
According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed in an elevator of I-Park apartments at around 9.24am on April 19.
Deputy public prosecutor Nordin Ismail prosecuted while the accused was represented by Edric Loo.
Nordin had asked the court to consider imposing a heavier sentence given the gravity of the offence and the impact on the 33-year-old victim, A Solairaj.
“The victim is still being treated in hospital for burns on his back, shoulder, and neck, and doctors need to clean these burn wounds. Imagine hot water splashing on the body.
“Therefore, the sentence imposed on the accused must have an impact, especially since the victim will experience trauma and permanent disability as a result of being splashed with hot water,” he was quoted as saying.
Oo was detained by Penang police at 9.21pm on the same day of the incident. Solairaj was returning to his apartment on the 16th floor.
Doctors confirmed that the victim, who was taken to Penang Hospital, suffered burns on the front and back of his right side due to exposure to hot water. He was reported to be in stable condition.
A 20-second clip of the incident taken from CCTV footage went viral on social media, with netizens condemning the woman’s action.
