Director fined for hiring factory owned by non-Muslim to bind Quran

Hua Mei Industry's director Sum Yew Hom was also fined RM8,000 for binding 3,800 copies of the Quran without a licence.

The director of a printing company has been fined RM8,000 by the magistrates’ court here for hiring a firm owned by a non-Muslim to bind 3,800 copies of the Quran last month.

Hatim Ab Wahab, 34, the director of Tihani Cetak Sdn Bhd, pleaded guilty before magistrate Farah Azura Saad, according to Harian Metro.

He was charged with violating the licence conditions set by the Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ), which is under the home ministry.

The offence was committed at a factory owned by Hua Mei Industry Sdn Bhd at Taman Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan, around 3.05pm on March 7.

Hua Mei Industry director Sum Yew Hom, 41, pleaded guilty to the charge of binding the copies of the Quran without a licence.

Sum told the court that he did not know it was an offence for his company to bind copies of the Quran. He was also punished with a RM8,000 fine.
