PETALING JAYA:
A member of the Malaysian civil defence force died yesterday, more than 40 days after collapsing during selection for a special unit under the agency.

Negeri Sembilan civil defence director Nazri Mes Kam said 25-year-old Afiq Ammar, who was previously stationed in Penang, collapsed during the selection session in Port Dickson.

Afiq had been in a coma for more than 40 days since March 9, Bernama reported.

“He collapsed during a 7km run, after which he was admitted to the intensive care unit of Port Dickson Hospital.

“However, due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital,” Nazri said.

Prayers for Afiq were held at the state civil defence headquarters’s surau before his remains were taken to Penang for burial.
