PM denies claims MIC not supporting govt candidate in KKB

Earlier reports said MIC would not be campaigning if the candidate is not from BN.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said MIC president SA Vigneswaran rang him up to say he would be campaigning in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
SHAH ALAM:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has refuted claims that MIC is not supporting the unity government candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election if the candidate is not from Barisan Nasional.

“It’s not true. The MIC president (SA Vigneswaran) called me and said he will go for campaigning,” he said after attending the PKR 25th anniversary special convention here today.

The media previously reported Vigneswaran as saying the party would not campaign in the by-election because it was not contested by a BN candidate.

The by-election will be held on May 11 following the death of DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, who represented Pakatan Harapan, on March 21.

The list of candidates for the unity government was submitted to Anwar at a recent unity government consultation council meeting.

BN had previously agreed to respect the agreement that the incumbent party should be given priority to field a candidate to represent the government.
