State customs director Roselan Ramli said the narcotics unit monitored the gated residential area in Gelugor following intelligence gathered.
“Our team spotted two bags placed under a tree in the residential area at 9.30pm and a quick inspection confirmed our suspicion that they contained drugs.
“We waited in ambush for eight hours but no one came to pick them up,” he told a press conference here today.
Roselan said the bags contained small packages of methamphetamine wrapped in “guanyinhwang” green tea bags and were worth RM966,976.
He said the drugs are sufficient to supply an estimated 150,000 addicts.
The department is in the process of identifying the suspects, he said.
