
He said he was confident that the police would offer advice and engage in further discussions with MKN and MAHB.
“I will leave it to them to hold these discussions,” he told reporters here after officiating the launch of the EVlution Charging Stations Rollout 2024 with Mastercard and RHB Bank.
“MAHB needs to take further action. As this involves operations and potential changes to the SOP at the airport, further discussions are required first.”
Loke said this was because security at the airport is enforced not only by the police but also by the airport’s auxiliary police.
Yesterday, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the shooting underscored the need for stricter security measures at the country’s main airport.
Noting that the public could now enter the airport area without strict controls, unlike in other countries that use scanners, Hussein said KLIA had to do better to detect people carrying prohibited items.
Loke said there are currently no plans to install metal detectors at the airport’s entrances.
He said various aspects must be considered before specific steps are taken.
On Sunday morning, a man fired two gunshots at the Terminal 1 arrival hall of the airport, reportedly aiming at his wife but failing to hit her.
One of the bullets struck a bodyguard, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
A manhunt was launched for the suspect, Hafizul Harawi, who was arrested in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, at around 3pm yesterday. Hafizul has been remanded for seven days.
