PETALING JAYA: Kelantan has declared next Tuesday (April 9) as a special state holiday in view of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
The announcement was made by menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud after obtaining the state executive council’s agreement, Sinar Harian reported.
Nassuruddin said the state holiday is aimed at easing traffic congestion the day before the festive celebration as people return to their hometowns.
“We expect traffic congestion to occur as soon as people from across the country return to Kelantan to celebrate Aidilfitri,” he was quoted as saying.
The date for the sighting of the Syawal new moon to determine the exact day of Aidilfitri has yet to be announced. However, it is expected that either April 10 or 11 will be the day of celebration.
