PETALING JAYA:
A police report is to be lodged by PAS Youth against a news portal that published an article which the Pahang sultan considers to be defamatory.

The youth wing’s information chief Khairul Nadzir Helmi Azhar said it was disappointed with the portal, Harapan Daily. He described the report as “fake news” which had forced the Pahang Ruler to come out with a statement to clear the air.

He added it was clear that the portal was trying to smear the Islamic party’s image with the article. “A police report will be lodged against the news portal to protect the sanctity of the monarchy and royal institution.”

Earlier today, the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, expressed his regret and disappointment over the news report which had misrepresented his speech.

A statement by the Pahang palace today said the sultan’s speech was not directed at any political party and was merely a reminder that the sanctity of a mosque should always be preserved.

The statement was in response to an article “Sultan Pahang beri amaran terhadap amalan bawaan PAS” (Pahang Sultan warns against PAS practices) published by Harapan Daily on March 22. The article has since been taken down.
