KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has channelled a contribution of RM1 million to Mapim, the Malaysian consultative council of Islamic organizations, for Malaysia’s 100 container aid mission to Gaza.
Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed hope that the donation can help the Palestinian people as they observe Ramadan and await the coming of Syawal.
He said Palestinians in Gaza were going through severe suffering and difficulties from the “brutality” of the Israeli military offensive since Oct 7 last year. More than 32,500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 74,900 others injured amid widespread destruction and shortages of essential goods.
The Israeli army has also imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip, leaving a large part of the population, especially those in the north, on the brink of starvation.
