Two officers from Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit finished recording the PAS president’s statement at around 3.15pm.

Police are investigating Hadi’s statement on “The importance of upholding Islam”, made on Feb 20, under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1987.

Hadi’s political secretary and Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman told reporters that Hadi gave his full cooperation to the officers.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that Hadi was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In Hadi’s Feb 20 statement, the Marang MP had advised the Malay rulers against “looking only at worldly interests”.

Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah later expressed disappointment with Hadi’s remarks, which followed the Federal Court’s decision to strike down several provisions in a Kelantan shariah criminal enactment.

In a letter sent through Selangor PAS commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri, Sultan Sharafuddin rebuked Hadi, saying his remarks were “highly inappropriate and uncultured” and could lead to division within the Muslim community.

Meanwhile, Syahir said that Hadi had sent a letter of gratitude to the Selangor sultan yesterday.

“Hadi sent a letter of gratitude dated March 4 (to the sultan). Its contents are between him and his majesty,” Syahir said.
