SHAH ALAM:
The developer of the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project has been instructed to study the cause of the flash floods that have frequently occurred across Selangor following the implementation of the project, and submit proposals to overcome them.

Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the LRT3 developer needs to examine the outflowing drain along Jalan Meru up to Sungai Klang, and the construction and modification of sewers around Bulatan Kota, as among the possible causes.

“Stagnant water also builds up when there is extremely heavy rain during high tide.

“Water flows back into the drain along Jalan Meru, causing overflow and the water to become stagnant,” he said in the Selangor legislative assembly sitting here today.

He was replying to Quah Perng Fei (PH-Bandar Baru Klang) who wanted to know why stagnant water builds up in drains along the LRT3 project every time there is heavy rain, especially in front of the Meru wholesale market and the Sekolah Tinggi Klang field.

Ng said the main causes identified include blockages due to deposits and rubbish, as well as utility obstacles.

In the meantime, he said, the LRT3 project has reached 93.88% completion as of January, with track infrastructure in Bandar Baru Klang at 99.24%, and station construction in Bandar Baru Klang at 91.03%.

He said the LRT3 project is expected to be fully completed and start operating in March 2025.
