20 senior citizens nabbed for gambling in Penang

Penang police have arrested 97 individuals, including 20 senior citizens, for involvement in gambling activities.

The state’s criminal investigation department carried out 14 raids on gambling activities in its Op Limau 2024, which ran for 10 days from Feb 15.

Penang deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said police raided 10 buildings and four other areas, detaining 97 people, aged 18 to 75.

“Thirty-five individuals had criminal records. Police also confiscated several items used in the gambling activities and cash totalling RM40,197,” he told a press conference here today.

Usuf said the CID also raided 46 premises suspected of running unlicensed entertainment centres and providing prostitution services.

He said police arrested 73 individuals, including 47 women comprising Malaysians and foreigners, aged 20 to 60, and seized various items as well as cash amounting to RM3,345.
