Earlier today, Sultan Ibrahim warned MPs against causing any political instability, and stressed that he will not entertain requests from parties trying to threaten the nation’s political stability.
He also said parties wanting to “play politics” must wait for the next general election (GE16).
In response, Afnan, who is also the PAS Youth chief, said “all parties in the federal government should not play politics”, adding that opposition MPs must be treated fairly and accorded their rights.
Apart from looking into facilitating applications for development projects in the four states governed by PN, he said, the government should ensure that these states are treated according to the principles of federalism.
“Then, this existing government would have no problem in continuing to administer (the country) until the next general election,” said the Alor Setar MP.
Afnan also accused Anwar of imposing conditions on opposition MPs to support him in order to obtain constituency development funds, an allegation which Anwar has denied in the past.
PN has made numerous claims about changing the government since Anwar was sworn in as the country’s 10th prime minister in November 2022.
Last month, Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor, who is also the PN election director, claimed that the unity government would fall before the end of its term as PN had enough statutory declarations (SDs) from MPs to unseat the unity government.
However, he did not provide any details, including the exact number of SDs that PN had obtained, especially from government MPs.
Last March, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the opposition had every right to formulate plans to take over the government, and that no one could stop it from doing so.
Hadi, the PN deputy chairman, told reporters the opposition was working on retaking Putrajaya “not only through elections but also in Parliament”, adding that “this is commonplace in a democratic country”.
Before that, he had also said Anwar’s administration would collapse “soon”, telling government parties not to blame PN for this.
