PETALING JAYA:
A Myanmar national was killed by a compatriot on Tuesday for failing to pay his debt, says Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari.

Sukarno said police were informed by a medical officer at a private hospital in Desa Park City, Kepong, of the victim’s death at 4am that day, Harian Metro reported.

“According to the complainant, the victim was brought to the hospital with injuries to his neck, chest and hands, with a lot of dried blood and bruises on his body.

“Further examination of the victim found that he was 24 years old and working as a cook at a restaurant in Banting, Selangor.

“However, no documents were found on the victim,” he was quoted as saying.

Sukarno said the initial investigation found that the victim was drinking with four of his fellow nationals at a basketball court on the day of the incident.

“A disagreement occurred when the victim refused to pay the RM2,500 he owed to one of the suspects, who then stabbed him in the neck with a bottle shard.

“We believe that the victim and all the suspects were drunk when the incident happened. The suspects then sent the victim to the private hospital before escaping,” he said.

Following that, police arrested four Myanmar nationals in their 20s in raids in Bandar Menjalara and Cheras at 11am that day.

“We confiscated the clothing and phones of all the suspects, who were working as restaurant helpers.

“All the suspects have been remanded for seven days from Wednesday until Feb 20 for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Sukarno said.
