PETALING JAYA:
The investigation into a fatal crash on the Maju Expressway yesterday morning involving a military officer suspected of drink driving has been reclassified as a murder probe.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department head Zamzuri Isa said the suspect has been remanded until April 28 to facilitate a murder investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“The investigation is almost complete. We are awaiting further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he told FMT.

A preliminary investigation found that the 31-year-old military officer had driven into the opposite lane and crashed head-on with another car driven by a 41-year-old e-hailing driver.

The car was carrying a Bangladeshi couple who were in Malaysia for a holiday.

The man killed in the crash is believed to be a gaming content creator. His wife, who was injured, is receiving treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

A breathalyser test found that the officer’s blood alcohol level had exceeded the allowed limit, while his urine test returned negative for drugs.

The case was initially investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by driving under the influence of alcohol.
