Julau police chief Andam Sulin said the men were reportedly unhappy over the RM5 in their ang pow packets.
Andam said the suspects were arrested at 6pm on Feb 12, a day after Sng reported the incident, Harian Metro reported.
According to the police report, Sng was in Julau for Chinese New Year on Feb 11, when the four men confronted him expressing their unhappiness over the small amount they found in their ang pows.
Sng said he later agreed to increase the amount but the suspects continued to provoke his staff.
“The suspects were unhappy because the ang pow only contained RM5.
“So, they added their own money to the ang pow, making it RM10, and returned it to Sng as a sign of their dissatisfaction,” Andam said in a statement today.
He said police were looking deeper into the case to determine the real cause of the incident.
Andam said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. If found guilty, the suspects could face up to two years in prison, a fine, or both.
Meanwhile, Sng posted on Facebook yesterday that the rural area’s tranquillity had become like “the Wild Wild West”, adding that gangs had increased their presence in the constituency, selling drugs, contraband cigarettes and liquor, and were also promoting illegal money lending.
He asked Bukit Aman to take action against this “total disregard for law and order”.
