He also wanted the composition of the council to reflect the demographic makeup of the residents in Klang to ensure representation of all ethnic groups, Bernama reported.

The sultan said the council should not be solely managed by politicians.

Speaking at the proclamation ceremony of the city status for Klang today, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded councillors as well as staff to always serve with dedication and integrity.

“Avoid all forms of corruption and power abuse. All of you need to go to the ground to be closer to the people and understand their problems,” he said.

The sultan urged MBDK to find solutions to the flood issues afflicting the city as parts of Klang are flooded during high tide and after heavy rain.

“Expert opinions need to be obtained to ensure any plans to address the flood issue can be effectively implemented.

“A systematic plan needs to be implemented, taking into account the strategic location of the royal city at the mouth of Sungai Klang,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin hoped that Klang, which is rich in historical heritage, can excel and be known for its clean city image, with attention given to residential areas, rivers and riverbanks.
