PETALING JAYA:
Selayang MP William Leong says he has met the developer of the proposed PJD Link highway to discuss the concerns of residents in the affected areas.

“I am pleased to report that Amrish Hari Narayanan, the executive director of Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link, responded positively to my request for a meeting,” he said in a Facebook post.

Leong said they also discussed “in broad terms” the proposed highway concept, the future transportation development needs of the greater Klang Valley, and alternative or complementary public transport and transit systems to urban highways.

“I will contact the relevant residents groups to discuss how to move forward with the discussions following this initial meeting with Amrish,” he said.

Last Saturday, Leong expressed his willingness to be a go-between for those affected by the proposed highway and its developer.

He noted that a promise had been made before the Selangor elections in 2023 to cancel the PJD Link project, but that the proposal had returned.

Leong also said that instead of submitting a revision of the project, forcing the state government to process it and residents to repeat the objection process, Amrish could have met with the residents to listen to their reasons for objection and addressed concerns.

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said last year that the Pakatan Harapan state government decided to scrap the PJD Link project as the impact assessment reports submitted by the developer were not satisfactory and did not meet certain conditions set by the state government.

The PJD Link Expressway would have connected the north and south of Petaling Jaya, passing through Petaling Jaya Utara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, the Petaling Jaya city centre, Taman Dato’ Harun, Taman Medan Baru, Taman Sri Manja, Bandar Kinrara and Bukit Jalil Technology Park.
