Kota Kemuning assemblyman S Preakas said this would be better than passing the buck and assigning blame for apparent poor city planning.
A recent town hall meeting had seen Shuhaily blaming politicians and local councils for poor city planning which failed to take into account the safety and well-being of residents.
This was rebuffed by Klang MP V Ganabatirau, who said lawmakers were not involved in any planning, to which Shuhaily pointed out that local council presidents are appointed by the state government.
Preakas said local governments should consider input from the police on development plans to ensure the safety of the local community.
However, he maintained that constructive discussions and collaboration would be more beneficial than blaming others for such issues.
“The key lies in finding solutions to problems, rather than pointing fingers at others. Both the police and local councils are dedicated to working for the betterment of our country.
“It is imperative that they collaborate instead of engaging in mutual blame,” the DAP man said in a statement.
Preakas also said that local council presidents and mayors are appointed by a committee that is not influenced by assemblymen or MPs.
In Selangor, local council presidents and mayors are appointed by a special committee tasked with selecting department heads. A shortlist of candidates is then submitted to the menteri besar for his agreement.
