KUALA LUMPUR:
A Rapid KL bus carrying six passengers caught fire in front of a shopping centre at Jalan Ampang here this morning.

Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd said the bus was travelling from Taman Mulia Jaya to Lebuh Ampang when the incident occurred at 10.52am.

“The bus driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus before he stopped the vehicle and asked the passengers to disembark.

“He tried to control the flames from spreading by using the fire extinguisher on the bus.

“The driver and passengers did not suffer any injuries, and there was no reported damage to public property. The bus was towed to the depot at 12.08pm,” it said in a statement.

Keramat fire and rescue station operations commander Fabell Yasin said six firefighters were deployed to the scene, where they found the fire had consumed the back of the bus.

He said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
