State Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said he would meet with Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari soon to discuss the role Barisan Nasional (BN) would play in the state.
“We’re fine,” he told FMT when asked if the party’s decision to hand back the local council posts to PH and the subsequent demand for all 373 village development and security committee (JPKK) chairman posts had affected their ties.
“All we need to resolve now is BN’s role in the state.”
Megat added that he had met with Amirudin prior to announcing the party’s decision to return the posts to PH, saying the meeting went well.
“Right now we are waiting for some guidance from the president,” he said, referring to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
On Saturday, Megat said the decision to return the posts to PH was to rebuff claims that Umno was “greedy” and “demanding”.
Malaysiakini recently reported that the state government could not finalise the appointment of local councillors as Umno had refused to accept Amirudin’s offer on the matter.
Selangor Umno had asked for 24 local council posts, a number subsequently negotiated down to 20.
Last night, Zahid denied any schism between Umno and PH in Selangor following the party’s demand to chair the JPKKs in the state.
