PETALING JAYA:
The remand of two policemen arrested over the alleged rape of a student and robbery of another is set to be extended, police said today.

“The remand for both suspects will end tomorrow (Wednesday) and it is expected to be extended.

“We will apply for seven days, but it is up to the magistrate to decide,” Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan told FMT.

Hussein said the police have almost completed their investigation and would be submitting the report to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

On Jan 11, FMT reported that two policemen had been arrested, including one suspected of raping a foreign college student, in Ampang, Selangor, on Jan 9.

This followed two reports related to the incident from the two alleged victims, both 18 and studying at a private college.

Hussein said the two uniformed policemen had detained the students in Bukit Ampang at 10.09pm, supposedly over a traffic offence.

He said they separated the couple and took them to different locations, where one of the policemen then allegedly raped the woman.

Hussein said the other policeman took the male victim to a bank and demanded that he withdraw money so he could pay for the traffic offence.

One of the policemen is being investigated for rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years in prison and whipping upon conviction.

The other is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery. If convicted, he could face a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping.
