SPAN chairman Charles Santiago said the commission would upgrade the 30-year-old sewer pipes from 150mm to 225mm and clean up 12 manholes.
Santiago said the project would address the 88 complaints received from business premises at Jalan SS15/4 and SS15/8 since 2018.
Noting that the area’s blocked and burst pipes were mainly due to cooking oil being dumped into the drains by restaurants, Santiago called for an immediate stop to the practice.
“If they don’t, this problem will start again in another six months,” he said.
He suggested that the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) issue summonses to restaurant owners if the problem persists.
Meanwhile, Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng also called on businesses to be more responsible in maintaining the cleanliness of commercial areas.
She added that MBSJ will issue notices once the project has been completed.
