
Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor handed over the appointment letter to Sabin, 63, in a brief ceremony at Menara Kinabalu here today.
Also present at the ceremony were Sabah industrial development and entrepreneurship minister Phoong Jin Zhe, assistant minister to the chief minister Abidin Madingkir, and Sabah state secretary Safar Untong, the Sabah chief minister’s department said.
Sabin, who is from Ranau, replaces Noorliza Awang Alip as the city’s seventh mayor.
He was a former director-general of the anti-financial crime centre in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Meanwhile, deputy chief minister II Joachim Gunsalam said in a separate statement that the Penampang district council would be upgraded to a municipal council.
