KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have opened an investigation paper concerning the pro-Palestine protest being held near the US embassy here since last night.

Wangsa Maju police chief Ashari Abu Samah said the investigation paper was opened under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for organising an event without a permit, Bernama reported.

He said the police have yet to interview the organisers of the “Aksi Bertindak: Kepung Demi Palestin” (Siege for Palestine) picket because they were waiting for the protest to end this Sunday.

“The protesters are still obeying police instructions and they are not blocking the road. In addition, police officers are also patrolling and inspecting the area round the clock,” he said this evening.

Last night, NGOs and political parties gathered in Kuala Lumpur ahead of a proposed six-day “blockade” of the US embassy.

The rally organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Palestin (SSP) saw more than 100 people marching from the Tabung Haji Tower in Jalan Tun Razak to the US embassy nearby.

However, police halted the so-called blockade, citing the need to ensure public order and the safety of foreign missions in Malaysia.
