KLANG:
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has brushed off PAS’s call for the party to dump DAP if it was serious about collaborating with the Islamic party.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said he merely regarded it as a typical call made by PAS, which seemed to have forgotten about its cooperation with DAP when both parties were allies in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

“We’re just following in the footsteps of PAS which had worked closely with DAP previously.

“This is just a usual call (by PAS), which we won’t entertain. PAS itself had cooperated with and praised DAP to high heaven before 2013,” he told a press conference at Amanah’s national convention here.

Mohamad was responding to PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin’s call for Amanah to dump DAP to show its seriousness in collaborating with the Islamic party.

“Thanks for opening the door to an alliance, but if they can stipulate conditions, so can we,” Hashim said, referring to a comment made by an Amanah leader yesterday.

Hashim was responding to Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari’s remarks that his party did not see PAS as an enemy.

Adly also said Amanah would not object if PAS wanted to be part of the unity government but the latter would need to stop “manipulating” 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues for political purposes.

Hashim said that as long as Amanah allied itself with DAP, it was inappropriate to form any alliance with Amanah.

Amanah is a splinter party that broke away from PAS in 2015 after the latter decided to quit the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Mohamad, who was sidelined in PAS’s leadership election that year, led other leaders and members out of the Islamic party.
