GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has told some 120,000 households in the southwest district of the island to start saving water after a major pipeline ruptured again.

Users were told to save water from 8pm today to 8am tomorrow.

The same ruptured pipeline on the riverbed of Sungai Perai had undergone repairs since Tuesday night, with work supposed to have been completed by last night. However, unfavourable weather and high tides delayed it to 1pm today.

The corporation’s CEO, K Pathmanathan, said the pipe started leaking again.

“Despite the leak, PBAPP will continue supplying treated water. Consumers in the southwest district will continue to have supply but at a lower pressure until 8pm.

“We urge these consumers to refill their water tanks and containers before 8pm. Ten water tankers will be sent to end-of-line and higher ground areas this afternoon,” he said in a post on Facebook.

The pipeline is one of two pipes channelling treated water to Seberang Perai North and the southern and western parts of the island.

A secondary pipeline from Seberang Perai continues to supply the remaining areas of the island.

Below are the affected areas in the Southwest district:
