Supermarket worker hacked to death for disturbing man’s sleep

Police say the suspect tried to flee the scene before admitting to the killing.

Police said they received a call that a man was lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

A Bangladeshi national allegedly hacked his fellow countryman to death with a cleaver for disturbing his sleep at Flat Haji Manan, here, this morning.

Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh said during the incident, the victim, Mohammad Sobuj, 28, who worked in a supermarket, had wounds to his head and neck.

Following the incident, five Bangladesh nationals, ages 25 to 30, were detained for questioning.

“At 10am, police received a call from a Bangladesh national who said that a man was in a pool of blood after suffering severe injuries and was unconscious.

“One of the suspects, who lives in the same room as the victim, later admitted that he had attacked the victim with a cleaver, which was found in the room.

“He said he was angry as the victim had disturbed him while he was sleeping,” Bahrin said in a statement.

Police said the suspects living in another room knew when they were going to work at 8am that the victim had died.

“The main suspect was detained in Jalan Nyior, opposite Taman Gunung Selatan Empat, here at about 4.45pm while trying to escape,” he said, adding that the victim’s body was sent to Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for a post-mortem.

All five suspects are expected to be remanded and police are treating the case as a murder investigation.
