Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Azman Ahmad Sapri said more than 18,000 traffic summonses were settled yesterday, while 3,015 summonses were paid as of noon today.
“Yesterday, the counters were opened from 9am to 4pm. Due to the overwhelming response, we have decided to extend the operation hours until 9pm today,” Bernama reported him as saying.
Yesterday, FMT reported that many motorists were frustrated over the long wait at the counters.
Many had gone there after it was announced that police were offering to settle their outstanding summonses for 50% of the usual compound fine.
Azman said they had set up 14 cash payment counters, besides providing visitors with the option to pay summonses online using a QR code.
“I’m very satisfied with the set-up. There are enough seats and tables as well as air-conditioning to provide comfort to visitors waiting their turn to settle the summonses. This can take up to two hours.”
On whether police will expand the 50% discount offer beyond the programme, Azman said this would require approval from Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain.
