Ex-lead prosecutor in Zahid’s trial made judicial commissioner

Raja Rozela Raja Toran, the former deputy head of the prosecution division at the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), has been appointed as a judicial commissioner.

Raja Rozela, who went on early retirement in October, is among nine judicial commissioners who received their letters of appointment from Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat at an event here today.

She later took her oath of office before Chief Judge of Malaya Zabidin Diah as she will be serving in the peninsula.

Raja Rozela, who had been with the AGC since 1991, led the prosecution team in the two corruption trials against Umno president and Bagan Datuk MP Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The other judicial commissioners appointed today were former lawyers Arziah Apandi, the daughter of former attorney-general Apandi Ali, Hazizah Kassim, Kan Weng Hin, Rosli Yusoff, Gan Techiong and Suriyati Hasimah Hashim, as well as lawyer Saiful Azian Mokhtar and Maslinda @ Linda Ainal from the AGC’s advisory division.

Maslinda and Saiful took their oaths of office before Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abdul Rahman Sebli as they will serve in that jurisdiction.

Also present were Attorney-General Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh, former chief justice Raus Sharif, who is a member of the Judicial Appointments Commission, and Apandi.
