Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan confirmed this when contacted.
“We believe there are criminal elements and the case is being investigated under Section 302,” he said.
Hussein said the post-mortem found injuries to the boy’s neck and body.
Zayn’s body was discovered near a river, just 100m from his apartment in Damansara Damai here, at 10pm yesterday.
He had been missing on Tuesday.
In a Bernama report, Zayn’s mother said it was hard to accept the reality that her eldest child had died.
Approached by reporters at Sungai Buloh Hospital today, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 28, urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.
“I couldn’t sleep last night. Even now, I feel Zayn is still here. I never expected it (the search for Zayn) to end like this,” she said.
Ismanira expressed gratitude to all those who prayed for Zayn’s safe return and helped to search for her son.
It is understood that Zayn’s remains will be laid to rest at the Section 9 Muslim cemetery in Kota Damansara today.
