Cops classify infant’s death on Penang coast as murder

Barat Daya police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal says a post-mortem revealed the cause of death was due to a wound to the neck.

The police were informed of the discovery of the body on the Queensbay coast at about 6pm on Sunday.

The police have classified the death of a baby girl found washed up on the Queensbay coast in the southeast of Penang island yesterday as murder.

Barat Daya police chief Kamarul Rizal Jenal said a post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was due to an incision to the neck.

“After obtaining the results of the post-mortem examination, we have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a statement.

Kamarul said the police were informed of the discovery at about 6pm yesterday.

He said the body was sent to Penang Hospital for an autopsy and the case is being investigated for concealment of birth by secret disposal of a child’s body.
