JPJ senior director of enforcement Lokman Jamaan said 719,766 vehicles were inspected during the operation carried out from Nov 1 to 29.

He said the summonses were for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987, the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987, the Land Public Transport Act 2010, and the Tourism Vehicles Licensing Act 1999.

“We also issued summonses to 5,811 foreign drivers for driving  without valid licences, which is a serious offence,” he said.

He also said a total of 2,360 demerit points were imposed on motorists that from January to October, with 1,966 licence holders being warned, suspended for the first time (333), the second time (49) and the third time (five), while the licences of six probationary drivers were revoked.
