“Some voices insist on claiming that the embassy and ambassador of the state of Palestine have asked Malaysian NGOs to contribute through the embassy, which is totally untrue,” it said in a statement.

It also stressed that all fundraising activities must be conducted under the supervision of Malaysian authorities.

Yesterday, Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, the chairman of Aman Palestin, refuted allegations suggesting that Malaysian contributions to Palestine facilitated by NGOs had failed to reach the intended recipients.

He said these claims emerged because of the organisation’s policy of bypassing the Palestinian embassy and sending donations directly to individuals in the affected region.

Zaik also claimed that the Palestinian embassy’s accusation of misconduct against Aman Palestin had ultimately led to the freezing of the latter’s bank accounts.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently froze 41 bank accounts belonging to Aman Palestin and several other companies in an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of RM70 million by the NGO.

MACC said the 41 bank accounts had a combined total of RM15.8 million.

The Palestinian embassy said in adherence to the Palestinian Authority’s directives, it was committed to exerting every effort to deliver aid and support through diplomatic channels.

It added that goods and aid intended for Gaza and the West Bank must pass through the Egyptian and Jordanian authorities, respectively.
