Faizal regrets picking MPs who turned traitors

The Bersatu deputy president says he chose Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid on trust only for him to betray the party.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he had convinced party president Muhyiddin Yassin to select Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid to stand in Kuala Kangsar.
SHAH ALAM:
Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu says he made a mistake in choosing certain candidates to contest in the 15th general election.

Faizal said this resulted in the betrayal of the party by, among others, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, who was his political secretary.

The Perak Bersatu leader pointed out that he had a hand in selecting candidates to represent the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition in the state.

He said he had convinced Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin that Iskandar could secure victory and chose him based on trust.

“I made him a candidate, and (in the end), he betrayed the party. My intention was only to strengthen the party, and I did not expect him to betray it,” he said during the Bersatu general assembly.

“I admit that I made a mistake in choosing the election candidates for Bersatu.”

On Oct 12, Iskandar became the first Bersatu MP to support Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

He was later followed by Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Meanwhile, Faizal denied being involved in the rumoured “London Move”.

Faizal said that while he was in the UK, he was not involved with the alleged “London Move”.

“I was in Manchester and not in London. People who believe I was part of the move are just dumb,” he said.

Rumours of the “London Move” began during the Umno annual general meeting in January. It was said to be a meeting involving several Malaysian politicians to discuss overthrowing the unity government.
