KUALA LUMPUR:
Defence minister Mohamad Hasan has told a PAS MP to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over his allegations on the procurement process for the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s long-range radar.

Awang Solahuddin Hashim (PN-Pendang) had asked Mohamad to clarify allegations that the defence ministry had given approval to Thales Group to reduce the work scope for a project without reducing its price.

Mohamad denied the claim and asked Awang to lodge a report to MACC with all the evidence he had.

“If Pendang has the proof, report it. We have no problem,” Mohamad said in his winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He denied reducing the specifications for the project, saying there was a reduction in the project cost after the ministry negotiated with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

The Rembau MP said the cost of production was finalised after the ministry agreed to import the domes (kubah) for the long-range radar.

“Upon the supplier’s advice, we imported the domes from Europe and saved RM10 million. We then installed them according to the specifications from the OEM,” Mohamad said.

He said the tender evaluation process for the project was done transparently and based on existing regulations.
