In a statement, Bersatu’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the findings by Merdeka Center clearly showed that Malaysians were not satisfied with the current administration’s performance.
The Tasek Gelugor MP also noted that the public’s dissatisfaction with Putrajaya was not restricted to any particular ethnic group.
“In reality, you don’t have to do a large survey to detect this unhappiness. Even if you ask people on the street, the sentiment is clear.
“After a year, the rakyat have realised they have been cheated.”
Comparing the results of its late October 2023 survey with numbers in December 2022, Merdeka Center said half of Malaysian voters gave Anwar a positive rating, compared with the previous 68%.
Noting that the federal government’s rating in October stood at 41% compared with 54% in December last year, it said dissatisfaction, particularly over the economy, rose to 43% from 19%.
It also found that 60% of the 1,220 respondents felt that the country was heading in the wrong direction, primarily due to economic issues, political instability and poor administration.
Wan Saiful went on to say the widespread dissatisfaction with the government was justified because the administration lacked capable leaders.
“The ministers lack direction, and there is hardly any real substantive reform that they have delivered.
“Not even one substantive economic reform has been delivered.”
