Businessman pleads not guilty to hurting lawyer

Sessions court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali set bail at RM25,000 in one surety and fixed Dec 5 for next mention of the case.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A businessman was charged in the sessions court here today with assaulting a lawyer at his office here last month.

Pavitar Singh pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 326 of Penal Code before judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.

Pavitar and two others – Shahrulnizam Maimun and Asyraf Sharin – were accused of causing grievous hurt to Jagjit Singh with a screwdriver on Oct 19.

Jagjit, a former sessions court judge, was a member of the special task force appointed by the previous government to investigate claims by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas in his autobiography, “Justice in the Wilderness”.

If found guilty, Pavitar faces a jail term of up to 20 years as well as one stroke of the cane.

Aminah set bail at RM25,000 in one surety and fixed Dec 5 for next mention of the case.
