BUKIT MERTAJAM:
A 16-year-old car driver involved in an accident which killed a motorcyclist and his pillion rider on the Penang Bridge yesterday has been released on police bail.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Tan Cheng San said the Form 4 student did not possess a driving licence.

“We have issued a summons against the teenager’s mother for allowing her son to use her car without a licence,” he said when contacted.

The 2.30am crash on the Perai-bound lane of the bridge involved a motorcycle, a Lexus, and a lorry. The motorcyclist and his pillion rider, both in their 20s, died on the spot.

The teenager sustained minor injuries, while the lorry driver was unhurt.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the car was believed to have hit the back of the lorry, causing it to lose control and hit the motorcycle.
