KUALA LUMPUR:
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has instructed all MPs who have not undergone medical check-ups to do so by next Tuesday.

Johari said he was informed that an MP fainted yesterday, but did not provide details.

“To those who have not yet undergone a medical check-up, I am extending the deadline until next Tuesday,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

To date, 196 of the 222 MPs, and five senators who are also ministers have completed their medical examinations.

In September, Johari instructed all MPs to undergo medical check-ups over concerns about their health.

He said 11 MPs had died during the course of their term in the past 15 years that he has served as an elected representative.

In July, domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub died days after suffering a brain haemorrhage. He was the Pulai MP.
