PETALING JAYA:
A father and son were among three people detained after a police raid on a car and an apartment unit in Penang used to store drugs.

Acting Timur Laut police chief V Saravanan said the seized drugs were worth nearly RM560,000 in the two raids yesterday, Bernama reported.

The first raid was at 1.15am by the wayside in Ayer Itam when police arrested two men, aged 44 and 52, acting as transporters.

Police found a packet of syabu weighing 103.8g in a car, along with equipment believed to be used for drug packaging.

This led police to raid an apartment in Sungai Ara. Inside a room, they found 40 packages of heroin weighing 17.83kg worth about RM148,000, 40 packages of marijuana weighing 37.6kg worth RM116,800, and eight packages of syabu weighing 8.2kg worth about RM273,500.

Saravanan said they also seized a vehicle and RM1,100 in cash.

He believed the syndicate had been active since early September.

Two of the suspects tested positive for drugs and had previous convictions for drug offences.

The third suspect, a 19-year-old teenager, is a student at a private university.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days until Nov 8.
