PETALING JAYA:
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will take firm action against errant canteen operators, including ending their contracts, following an incident in which a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) student was served food that had gotten bad.

Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that he had asked for a full report from Mara’s management following the incident, which has gone viral on social media.

“Although I am overseas, I have directed the deputy director of Mara to investigate this immediately,” he said on Facebook last night.

“If negligence is found to have truly occurred, Mara will take strict action, including ending contracts according to the rules and agreements set,” he said.

Asyraf added that Mara would not compromise with “any canteen contractor that takes the preparation of student food lightly”.

Images of a rotten hard-boiled egg that was served to a student at a MRSM in Negeri Sembilan had been widely-spread on social media. The viral message also stated that the boy subsequently suffered from food poisoning.

According to Facebook users, this is not the first time a MRSM student has received food that had gone bad.

“Many (MRSM) students have had stomach aches and diarrhoea. If you saw that the eggs were already bad when you were peeling them, how could you still serve them?” they asked.

“I hope the management will terminate their contracts,” the Facebook user said in a post that was shared by Asyraf.
